CLPS has two wellbeing staff members. Nadia has a psychology degree and is currently undertaking her honours year. Lisa has a psychology degree and is currently undertaking a Masters of Play Therapy and a Masters of Social Work. Using a referral process, teachers can refer students for 1:1 check-ins and wellbeing sessions with Nadia or Lisa.
Our Occupational Therapist attends CLPS weekly. Using a referral process, teachers can request that a student have OT support. This can include assessments, observations, or 1:1 weekly support for social skills and wellbeing.
At times the Tier 1 and Tier 2 supports outlined previously are not sufficient for a student. When a student is showing high levels of dysregulated behaviour, extremely low levels of overall wellbeing, or if they have experienced an event, additional supports are provided. School leadership will work in conjunction with the school wellbeing team, a child’s classroom teacher, the student’s parents/carers, Department of Education staff, and external agencies to provide individualized supports for a student. This might include 1:1 Education Support, an alternative learning environment outside the classroom, an alternative program, or an altered timetable.
CLPS has the capacity for a small number of students to work with an experienced teacher in an intensive, small group alternative engagement program. This is provided for a student/s when their behaviour or wellbeing is so at risk that they cannot participate in a standard classroom program. This is always seen as a short-term option, with the longer-term goal always to re-engage the student with their same age peers in a regular classroom setting.
